PICKLEBALL PADDLE
Looking for new ways to play? These creative games were originally developed by Howard Sokol — the inventor of Pick-A-Paddle and a longtime physical educator. They’re easy to set up and work great in driveways, gyms, or backyards. Just grab a RuggedRacket™ and a soft plastic or foam ball.
Can be played against any flat surface such as a garage door. A short service line must be determined. Each player can only score when they serve the ball from behind the short service line. On the serve the ball must come back past the short service line and bounce before it can be played. The ball may bounce only once but may be played on the fly after the serve. A long line and side lines may be determined if needed. Play to 15 points. Must win by two. May use foam or plastic ball depending on the surface of wall and court.
Volley game with plastic or foam ball played on a beach, in a yard, or at the playground. Hit back and forth without ball touching the ground. Set court dimensions and mid court line in sand or grass. Faults result if ball is not returned on a fly or is hit out of bounds. Faults result in points for the opponent. Each player serves five, play to 21 as in table tennis.
Played in the water: at the beach, at the lake, in the pool. Simply see how many times you can volley with a partner without a fault. Try to increase your record volley. Play with a plastic ball in the water.
Played on small tennis court, deck tennis court, or badmiton court with or without low net. Use foam or plastic ball depending on playing surface. Service is usually underhand. Rules will vary depending on size of court. Smaller courts may impose the one bounce rule. Service may alternate on faults as in badmiton. Play to 15 points. Must win by two
Volley or one bounce game where courts are simply a circle or ring or just a line. Players must stay within or behind their boundaries. Returns must bounce or fall inbounds in order to score. Failure to return the ball is a fault and points are awarded to the opponent. Service may be underhand. Choose your own service and scoring arrangement.
